Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Campus. It sets out who may hold an account, what students keep control of, what approved employers may and may not do with a profile, and the commitment that Campus stays free for students.
Last updated 29 August 2026
1. This agreement
Campus is a free service that connects students at participating universities with local employers. Students publish a structured profile; employers who have been reviewed and approved by an administrator can search those profiles and send outreach.
These terms are a binding agreement between you and Campus. By creating an account, signing in, or using any part of the service — including a public portfolio link or an emailed endorsement link — you accept them. If you are accepting on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind that organisation.
Our handling of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
2. Who may use Campus
Students
A student account requires a university email address ending in .edu that you personally control. Addresses at other domains are rejected at signup. After you register we email a verification link to that address; it is valid once and expires after 24 hours. Until you complete it, the account cannot be used. You may request a new link, subject to a short cooldown.
You must be at least 16 years old and currently enrolled at, or a recent graduate of, the institution whose address you used. If you lose access to that address or leave the institution, your existing account continues to work, but you must not represent yourself as currently enrolled if you are not.
Employers
An employer account may only be created by someone authorised to represent the organisation named on the application. Every application is reviewed by an administrator, and the account cannot search profiles, shortlist candidates, or send outreach until it is approved. Approval is discretionary, may be refused without a detailed reason, and may be withdrawn later.
Endorsers
An instructor or supervisor asked to confirm a student’s coursework responds through a one-off link sent by email. No account is created, and using that link binds you only to the parts of these terms that concern honest use and acceptable use.
3. Your account
You are responsible for everything done through your account. Choose a password of at least eight characters that you do not use elsewhere, and keep it to yourself. Passwords are stored only as a bcrypt hash, so nobody at Campus can read yours or tell you what it is; if you forget it, use the password reset link, which also expires after 24 hours.
One account per person. Do not share credentials, create an account for someone else, or continue to use an employer account after you leave the organisation it belongs to. Tell us at legal@campus.hiretahoe.com as soon as you suspect unauthorised access, and we will end the affected sessions.
4. Acceptable use
Campus works because what is on it is true and because people can trust how it is used. Whichever kind of account you hold, you agree not to:
- give false information, impersonate another person or organisation, or claim coursework, projects, skills, or employment that are not yours;
- scrape, crawl, bulk-download, mirror, or otherwise systematically extract profiles or any other content, or access Campus by automated means;
- resell, licence, or redistribute anything you find on Campus, or feed it into a data product, a marketing list, or a model training set;
- work around the employer approval process, a student’s visibility setting, a revoked share link, rate limits, or any other access control;
- use outreach or endorsement requests for advertising, spam, chain messages, recruitment-fee schemes, investment offers, or anything unrelated to a genuine opportunity;
- ask a student for money, bank details, payment-card details, a government identifier such as a Social Security number, or copies of identity documents;
- harass, threaten, or discriminate against anyone, or post unlawful, defamatory, or obscene content;
- probe, scan, or test the security of the service, interfere with its operation, or attempt to access data that is not yours.
Report anything that looks like a breach of this section to legal@campus.hiretahoe.com.
5. Your content and the licence you grant
Your profile is yours. Your name, skills, coursework, project descriptions, links, and everything else you enter remain your content, and Campus claims no ownership of it.
So that we can actually run the service, you grant Campus a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for formatting, and display that content for the sole purpose of operating Campus. In practice that licence covers exactly four things:
- showing your profile to approved employers in search results, on your profile page, and in shortlist comparisons, while your visibility is switched on;
- showing your portfolio to anyone holding a public share link that you created and have not revoked;
- showing the course you named, and your name, to an endorser you nominated;
- including your own information in the emails and notifications Campus sends you.
The licence does not let Campus sell your content, use it in advertising, license it to third parties, or display it anywhere else. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies held in routine backups for a limited period and anything an employer has already recorded outside Campus, which we cannot recall.
Only publish content you have the right to publish. Do not upload material that is confidential to an employer or a course, or that infringes someone else’s rights.
6. Visibility and share links
A new student profile is not visible to employers. Nothing appears in employer search until you turn visibility on, and turning it off again removes you from search and from any employer profile page immediately.
You can also create a public portfolio link. Anyone who has that link can view the portfolio without signing in, so treat it like a password: share it deliberately. Revoking the link stops it working at once, and a new link is a different address. The link is independent of your visibility setting: while it exists it keeps working even when your profile is hidden from employer search, so revoking it is the only thing that turns it off.
Campus records when an approved employer opens your profile and shows you that history; you can switch off the viewer history display at any time. What we cannot do is undo what someone has already seen, saved, or copied.
7. Coursework endorsements
When you request an endorsement you are asking Campus to email a real person you name — usually an instructor or a teaching assistant — and to disclose your name and the course to them. Only nominate someone who actually taught or assessed you, use their genuine address, and do not send repeated requests to the same person.
An endorser may confirm or decline, and an endorsement is one person’s statement, not a verification of a transcript. Campus displays it as such and does not warrant that it is accurate. Requesting endorsements dishonestly is grounds for removing your account.
8. Employer obligations
Approval to search is a privilege that comes with conditions. If you hold an employer account, you agree that:
- the company name, website, and contact details on your application are accurate, and you will keep them current. We run automated checks — including whether your contact email domain matches your website and whether that website responds — and flag mismatches for human review;
- you will use profiles only to evaluate candidates for genuine roles at the organisation on your account, and for no other purpose;
- you will not use anything you see on Campus for marketing, lead generation, background or credit decisions, or to add a student to a mailing list or CRM without their agreement;
- you will not attempt to obtain a student’s email address or phone number through Campus. Campus does not show them to you; outreach is relayed by us on your behalf;
- outreach will be specific, professional, and about a real opportunity, and you will honour a student’s request to stop contacting them;
- your private shortlist notes are your record, and you will keep them factual, job-related, and free of any assessment of a protected characteristic;
- once you take a candidate’s information off Campus you become independently responsible for it, including under applicable data protection and employment law, and you will keep it secure and retain it no longer than you need it.
9. Non-discrimination
Campus exists to widen access to local opportunity. Using it to narrow that access unlawfully is the one thing that will always end an employer account.
You must not use Campus — its search filters, radius search, shortlists, comparison view, notes, or outreach — to discriminate against any student on the basis of race, colour, religion, creed, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital or family status, military or veteran status, citizenship or immigration status (except where a lawful requirement genuinely applies), or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
Campus deliberately does not collect or offer filters for protected characteristics. The filters we do provide — skills, major, graduation year, availability, and distance from a ZIP code — are for finding relevant fit. Using any of them, or any information a student has chosen to share, as a proxy for a protected characteristic breaches these terms.
You remain solely responsible for complying with equal-opportunity and fair-hiring law in how you search, shortlist, contact, interview, and hire. Campus is a discoverability tool and takes no part in your hiring decisions.
10. No fees, no paid placement
Campus is free for students and will stay free for students. We do not charge students to register, to build or keep a profile, to be visible, to receive outreach, or to request an endorsement. We will never take a fee, a commission, or a share of a salary from a student who is hired.
No employer can buy placement. Search results are ordered by the criteria the employer chose — never by payment — and no payment gives an employer priority, exclusivity, a promoted position, or access to a student who has not turned visibility on. Campus carries no advertising and does not sell personal data.
Employer accounts do already carry usage limits, and we would rather set them out here than have you meet them by surprise. Every employer account starts on the free plan. On the free plan a search returns the first 20 matching profiles only — the result count still tells you how many matched in total — and the account can send 10 outreach messages in a rolling 30-day period, after which sending is blocked until the period rolls over. An account on the paid plan has neither limit. Those two limits are the only difference between the plans: the same students, the same filters, and the same ordering.
No payment processor is connected to Campus. Paid status is granted by an administrator by hand, and no employer is being charged anything today.
If that changes — if employer features start carrying a charge, or these limits move — we will say so plainly before the change applies to you. It would not change the rest of this section: Campus stays free for students, and no payment buys placement, priority, or access to a student who has not turned visibility on.
11. Review and moderation
Administrators review employer applications, respond to reports, and may flag an account for closer attention. Administrative decisions — approvals, rejections, flags, and changes to an employer’s plan — are written to an audit log recording who acted, on which account, when, and the reason where one was given, so that they can be examined later.
We may remove or hide content that breaches these terms, ask you to correct something, or restrict features on an account. Where there is a risk of harm to students we may act first and explain afterwards.
12. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Campus whenever you like. Turning visibility off takes you out of employer search; to close the account entirely and have its data deleted, write to privacy@campus.hiretahoe.com. Deleting an account removes the profile and the records attached to it, as described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, that we reasonably believe to be fraudulent or harmful, or where required by law. We may also discontinue the service; if we do, we will give as much notice as we reasonably can. Sections 5, 13, 14, and 15 survive termination.
13. Disclaimers
Campus is a directory and an introduction service. It is not an employment agency, a recruiter, a staffing firm, or a party to any employment relationship, offer, contract, or hiring decision. We do not screen students for you, we do not vouch for the accuracy of a profile or an endorsement, and approval of an employer means an administrator reviewed the application — not that we have investigated the organisation or endorse its roles.
We give no guarantee that you will find a job, an interview, or a candidate. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Employers should carry out their own verification and reference checks; students should exercise ordinary judgement about who contacts them and never send money or identity documents in response to outreach.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Campus is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost opportunities, lost employment, lost goodwill, or lost or corrupted data, arising out of or relating to your use of the service — even if we were told such damages were possible.
Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid Campus in the twelve months before the claim (for students, that is nothing) or one hundred United States dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is so, these limits apply only as far as the law allows, and nothing here excludes liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
You agree to indemnify Campus against claims, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the service, or your handling of information you obtained through it.
15. Governing law
Placeholder — must be completed before launch
The operator of Campus must replace the bracketed values below with the governing jurisdiction and venue, after taking legal advice. Until then this clause states no choice of law.
These terms, and any dispute arising out of them or the service, are governed by the laws of [STATE / PROVINCE], [COUNTRY], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The state and federal courts located in [COUNTY / CITY, STATE] have exclusive jurisdiction, and both parties submit to the jurisdiction of those courts.
Nothing in this section deprives a consumer of the protection of mandatory laws in their country of residence, or of the right to bring proceedings in their local courts where that right cannot be waived.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product changes or the law requires. When we do, we change the “last updated” date at the top of this page, and for changes that materially affect your rights we give notice by email or in the product before they take effect. Continuing to use Campus after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, close your account.
